IC 7 - Egg Battle

New Year's Eve 2006 marked the one-year anniversary of our competitive potlucking. Many thanks to Matt and Lauren for hosting, open bar, home brew and appetizers.

The category winners:

Baked Eggs and Fennel (Emily) , Doro Wat (Christie), Pear Tart (Marilyn) for receiving votes in three different categories, something which none of the category winners achieved.

IC 6 - Coconut Battle

On November 4th the reigning Iron Chef Christie challenged the contestants to a battle with coconut. Her very own husband Scott was awarded the new title of Iron Chef NW with his entry of coconut shrimp with Tamarind-Ginger dip. He asks all chefs to come with their best EGG recipes to IC 7!

Awards went to:

Best Presentation - Marilyn both for her CocoaNuts cake fully dressed in Marx Bros memorabilia, and for her rendition of one their songs



Most Creative - Chris and Louise with their Peanut/Coconut fondue mmmmm scrum-didly-umptios

Best expression of theme ingredient - Tie between Marnie with her mini-triple coconut cream pies and Lauren with her home-made Mars and Almond-Joy cookies. Lauren won with votes which were included in a new "wild card" category.


Overall Tastiness - Scott for coconut shrimp with Tamarind-Ginger dip

Other Entrees
Steve - Pina coladas (came in second place overall, despite not winning a category! (came in second in several)

Russ - MaryAnn's original triple coconut creme pie


Matt - Coconut Coffe Cream

  • 1 part Malibu Rum, 1 pt. Kahlua, 1pt. coffee, 1 pt. milk. Serve hot or cold with a KitKat and chocolate covered espresso beans.

IC 5 - Cheese Battle

August 12, 2006 JoDe hosted IC5 in Tacoma. The theme ingredient came baked, melted, sliced, frozen, and crumbled! The big cheese, Christie S. swept the competition with her fresh and flavorful prosciutto melon mozzarella balls adorned with home grown pesto!

Recipes:

Spicy Chile Cheese Squares**

  • 4 (4oz) cans whole green chiles
  • 1 (13 oz) can evaporated milk
  • 2 pounds monterey jack cheese, grated
  • 1 1/2 Tbl flour
  • 5 eggs
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Preheat oven to 350. Split chiles in half and remove seeds. In 9X13 pan, layer half the chiles and half the cheese; repeat. Mix all other ingredients and pour over chiles and cheese.Bake at 350 for 35-45 minutes until firm in center. Let pan stnd 10 min. before cutting into squares and serving. Yield 20 squares. **From the "Simply Whidbey" cookbook

IC 4 - Chili Battle

Marnie B hosted IC4 in Tacoma on June 17th. A new voting scheme and plaque was unveiled, with winners in four categories. It was neck & neck at the finish line, and there were repeated ties between Lauren's Flourless Ancho Chili Chocolate Cake and JoDe's African Peri Peri Prawns. With the toss of a coin, JoDe was determined winner and host of IC4, designating cheese as the theme ingredient.
